There are many historic, scenic and interesting points of interests to visit while camping at Jellystone Park™ in Central New York. America’s War of Independence Mural: La Guerre d’Independence, Mexico Academy & Central School – Multicolored woodblock scenic mural depicting America’s War of Independence; made in France. Only two exist, the other is displayed in the White House. Mexico Point State Park – Nature trail. Medieval-style cottage open for tours. Beach open for swimming mid-June through Labor Day. Safe Haven Museum & Education Center – America’s only shelter for Nazi Holocaust survivors during World War II. Starr Clark Tin Shop – Starr Clark ran a nice little business in Mexico in the 1850s, a tin shop in the village of Mexico, a famed stop on the Underground Railroad, it is being refurbished to become a museum. H. Lee White Marine Museum – in the Historic Maritime District of Oswego, NY. Preserving and presenting the maritime history of the Oswego harbor and surrounds Fort Ontario State Historic Site – French & Indian War. Underground artillery casemates and rifle galleries, Powder Magazine, East and West Guardhouses, Storehouse, and ramparts, featuring magnificent views of Lake Ontario, are available for touring. Salmon River Hatchery – Salmon River Fish Hatchery specializes in raising steelhead, chinook salmon, coho salmon, brown trout and landlocked salmon. Originally constructed to revive and enhance the fishery of the Great Lakes, this facility provides most of the fish for the now multi-million dollar Lake Ontario and Erie. Salmon River International Sport Fishing Museum – The Gladding International Sport Fishing Museum, believed to be the nations first sport fishing museum. Rosmond-Gifford Zoo – The Rosamond-Gifford Zoo is now home to approximately 700 animals on 43 acres. Continuous improvements to the zoo’s infrastructure and animal exhibits ensure that the Rosamond Gifford Zoo will remain a treasured attraction in Central New York. MOST – Museum of Science & Technology – The MOST’s vision is to be a preeminent science and technology center, inspiring all generations through hands-on education and entertainment. Beaver Lake Nature Center – Located just 15 minutes northwest of Syracuse, New York, in Baldwinsville, Beaver Lake Nature Center offers 9 miles of trails and over 400 annual programs. A rich mix of habitats creates the possibility of seeing more than 200 species of birds and over 800 varieties of plants. Salmon River Falls in Central New YorkSalmon River Falls – 110 foot waterfall, higher than Niagara Falls, providing a breathtaking view anytime of the year. Footpath to the bottom of the gorge open May – November. Oswego County Tourism – Oswego County offers year-round fun and recreation for everyone!
